FUCK the GSK show at the Royal Academy. ...
... Fordert der britische Aktionskünstler Mark McGowan heute per E-Mail. Grund für seinen Zorn ist die Tatsache, dass sich die Royal Academy in London ihre aktuelle Show nicht nur von einem Pharmaunternehmen mit, so McGowan, zweifelhaftem Ruf, sponsoren lässt, sondern die ganze Veranstaltung auch noch den Namen des Konzerns trägt:

GLAXO SMITH KLINE are a questionable company and totally unethical, their treatment and torture of animals is appalling and animal rights have been protesting asgainst them for years, they cut animals, all types of animals, insert bacteria and watch them die, also they have a long list of law suits against them to do with different drugs, just look up this one for instance, Paroxetine, aka, Seroxat or Paxil, (a child anti depressive drug), its not good reading, the controversy surrounding this pharmacutical conglomerate makes me angry they slowed down production of their anti AIDS drug so they could get more money from poorer countries like Africa, ...
Hier schießt sich der moralisch erschütterte Künstler natürlich selbst ins Knie, indem er genau wie kürzlich die amerikanische Vizepräsidenschafts-Kandidatin Sarah Palin den afrikanischen Kontinent mal kurz zum Land degradiert.
... but they are sponsoring a show at the royal academy and their name GSK is the title of the show, how can an art show be entitled with the name of such a company it is obvious that some artists and curators have no morals and that it doesnt matter who sponsors the show they will be involved. But would they be involved with the BNP contemporary, I doubt it. I suppose that the GSK contemporary IS WITHIN THEIR MORALS.

Alles in allem kratzt McGowan hier sicher an einem wunden Punkt, aber mit seinen Vergröberungen, Ungenauigkeiten und Fehlern tut er sich und der Diskussion über den Einfluss multinationaler Firmen auf den Kulturbetrieb keinen großen Gefallen. Ganz im Gegenteil, der Vergleich von GSK mit BNP, der rechtsradikalen British National Party, klingt schwer nach dem auf-die-Kacke-hauen des Hinterbänklers - der er warscheinlich ja auch ist.
GlaxoSmithKline jedenfalls kann sich bei solchen Kritikern zurücklehnen und auf ein jahrelanges Kulturangagement verweisen. Und außerdem, wo ist denn der Unterschied zwischen dem kostenlosen Glas Moet, dem Absolut-Vodka-Tresen bei der Eröffnung und der Benennung einer Ausstellung? Das Berliner Guggenheim heißt ja auch Deutsche-Bank-Arena!
